Work finally starts at our new base!
A momentous day for Border Search and Rescue, as the long awaited construction of our new team base finally gets underway!
Last year we announced that we had taken ownership of a plot of land in Kelso which would, in future become our new home. Well today marks the first physical step of this project becoming reality – work has started on site and we couldn’t be happier!
2021 was a busy year for the team with the highest ever number of volunteering hours recorded by our members. This is one of the main reasons, it is more important than ever to have an efficient, convenient and practical, operational base.
The new facility will have suitable accommodation for training and meetings, space to sort and quarantine equipment, adequate storage, changing rooms and much more. Plus all the vehicles stored in one location, which is great!
The last couple of years have brought huge challenges to this project. Our usual fundraising activities have been cancelled due to covid restrictions for a second year. Plus the rising prices have meant we have had to reduce the specification of the building to a minimum.
Despite these challenges, we are very pleased to see progress finally being made, thanks to the huge efforts of our Base Sub Committee team members and some very generous donations.
We are still seeking funding to fit out the inside of the building - so if you can make a donation or know someone who could contribute funds or resources to assist, then please get it touch.
Our Team Leader, Duncan Buchanan has said “Thank you to all our supporters and everyone who has helped to get us to this point, we couldn’t have done it without you, and we look forward to keeping you updated!”
