BSARU July 2021 Update

Article written by Seymour Haugh, for Kelso Life magazine. Callout on Auchope Rig, and Landrover Refurbishment

Coming down Auchope Rig, a ridge on the Pennine Way that takes walkers North East away from the route to Cheviot Summit, a lady walker had a simple slip that had severe consequences for her.

Auchope Rig Callout

The BSARU was alerted by Police Scotland and given the dry conditions on the hills was able to get their Land Rover up to 300 metres from the Mountain Refuge Hut. From there a hot walk up with a stretcher and medical bag resulted in the casualty receiving pain relief, having her ankle splinted and being carried back to the vehicle and hospital. As a result of the slip the walker had 3 breaks and a dislocation in her ankle and will require an operation.

Land Rover Refurbished

Reiver Yankee

Reiver Yankee has been in Gibson’s garage in Yetholm receiving a complete overhaul including a new chassis, the fitting of a roll cage and a new winch. This has been made possible thanks to donations from the public. The upkeep of vehicles and equipment is a constant drain on resources and the team relies on fund raising and donations to keep operational. Thanks go to all who support us.
