CALL OUT 21/12/2019

The team were called to assist Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team with a search for a missing person in Midlothian. The casualty was found by a member of the public, and team members provided first aid assistance before the Scottish Ambulance Service arrived to transport him to hospital. 10 team members responded.

CALL OUT 06/12/2019

A second call out in as many days for the team. This time we were called to assist Scottish Ambulance Service with the extraction of a casualty following a quad bike accident in the Yetholm area.

CALL OUT 05/12/2019

A call came at 17:51 last night from Police Scotland to assist with a search for a high risk missing person in the Earlston area. Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team were also called to assist due to the urgency of the incident.

We were stood down at 21:59 after the missing person was found safe by Police Scotland.

22 BSARU team members attended.

CALL OUT 24/11/2019

Just as the team were packing up from their First Aid training weekend in East Lothian, we were called out to assist the Fire Service in recovering a person and a dog stuck on a ledge. Fortunately the person was able to get herself to safety and the Fire Service recovered the dog, so the team were stood down as they were mobilising.

CALL OUT 21/11/2019

This morning, alongside Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team, Ochils Mountain Rescue Team and SARDA (Southern Scotland), we were called in to assist Midlothian Police with the search for two missing school children in Rosewell. 16 BSARU Team members responded and we're relieved that both boys were found safe and well.

STAND BY 16/11/2019

The team were briefly put on stand by to assist when an off road vehicle rolled down an embankment. Fortunately there were no casualties so the team were stood down.

CALL OUT 24/09/2019

The team were called to respond to a male in his 20s who had suffered an ankle injury whilst walking the final section of the Pennine Way.

His father called for assistance after his son could no longer continue and nightfall was setting in. The weather has also started to deteriorate with strong winds, rain and low cloud moving in.

The pair were soon found thanks to an accurate grid reference given by the father. Both were cold and exhausted. Due to the nature of the injury, the son was packaged onto a stretcher and carried over 4km back along the Pennine way to a vehicle.

The team was stood down at 03:30 this morning.

We wish both casualties a speedy recovery and hope that one day they head back to complete their journey along the Pennine Way.

Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue were also called due to the location of the incident.

EVENT INCIDENT 15/09/2019

A very full day for the team at Edinburgh's Riding of the Marches. Our first aiders were kept busy with lots of folk falling from horses. Luckily most were able to rejoin the ride with only bruises and injured pride. We wish those few that had to go to hospital for treatment to fractures and concussion a speedy recovery.

CALL OUT 01/09/2019

Team were called out at 0524hrs by Police Scotland to help look for a missing person with dementia in the Gordon area. 12 team members searched surrounding woodlands and tracks, and the lady was fortunately found safe and well outwith our search area by a member of the public.

CALL OUT 27/07/2019

The team were called out at 19:37hrs on Saturday night by Police Scotland to assist Coastguard and other agencies in a search for a high risk missing person at Tyninghame Beach. The team were stood down as they were travelling to the locus as the person was found safe and well. 8 team members responded.

CALL OUT 20/07/2019

The team were put on Standby at 8pm and subsequently called out at 9pm to assist Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team in searching for a high risk casualty in the Innerleithen area.  The Missing person located at around 23:30 by friends who were also out searching. Thanks to  SARDA Southern ScotlandSearch & Rescue Dog Association (Scotland) and Search & Rescue Aerial Association - Scotland who also assisted. In total 39 Volunteer Mountain Rescue personnel, 2 Search Dogs and a Search & Rescue Drone were involved in this search along with Police Scotland Officers.

EVENT INCIDENT 20/07/2019

Team members who were providing first aid cover for the Kelso to Kirk Yetholm Rideout were on scene to help a fallen rider on Linton Hill who had suspected spinal and head injuries. They made the casualty comfortable and transported him to a waiting ambulance at the roadside. 4 team members were involved.

CALL OUT 14/07/2019

The team were called out after a day of providing first aid cover to the Kelso Rideouts to assist the Ambulance Service in recovering a casualty trapped in water near Stichill. 13 team members were involved.

CALL OUT 02/06/2019

The team were called out at 3.03am this morning to search for a missing vulnerable woman in Binning Woods, where her car had been found. Police and Police search dogs were also present, and were later joined by the Coastguard. Our team stood down at 1700 hours (Other team members had also been providing first aid cover for the Yetholm Hill Race that afternoon), and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team took over searching with 2 search dogs. Police eventually found a body at 1915hrs.  Our thoughts are with her relatives and friends. 13 team members were involved.

EVENT INCIDENT 19/05/2019

A runner in the Cheviot Trails Marathon became unwell towards the end of the race and 4 team members helped her back to Yetholm. We wish her a speedy recovery!

CALL OUT 07/05/2019

A brief callout for us to assist ambulance, police and coastguard personnel in the search for a casualty at Tyninghame. The person was located by local coastguard members as BSARU was en route and we were stood down. 

17 team members responded.

CALL OUT 13/04/2019

Overnight, the team was called by East Lothian Police to assist in a multi-agency response to rescue a man who'd fallen on crags at North Berwick Law.
Two friends had gone to his assistance and were stuck with the casualty in a precarious position.
Accessing the casualty from below proved difficult so local team members abseiled to secure the casualty as a Scottish Ambulance Service paramedic treated him and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service rigged for a technical rescue. 
The friends were safely escorted down the hill then the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter winched the casualty on board.
Daylight had arrived by the time we got back to the vehicles.
North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team and other coastguard colleagues were also in attendance.

CALL OUT 04/04/2019

The team were called again, alongside Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue TeamSARDA Southern Scotland & Search & Rescue Dog Association (Scotland) , to assist Midlothian Police with the ongoing search for a missing Dalkeith man. 14 team members searched until dark around Vogrie Park following a further report of a sighting in that area.

Sadly his body was found the next day in a wooded area near to Crichton Castle in Pathhead, outwith our search areas. Our sympathies are with his family.

CALL OUT 01/04/2019

The the team were called this morning, alongside Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue TeamSARDA (Southern Scotland) & Search & Rescue Aerial Association - Scotland to assist Midlothian Police with the search for missing person Ross Taylor, from Dalkeith.
15 team members were tasked with searching woodland around the Newbattle area.

CALL OUT 21/03/2019

The the team were called this evening to assist Scottish Ambulance Service with an awkward extraction of an injured mountain biker through woodland and over a narrow bridge. 12 Team members responded.

We hope the casualty makes a quick recovery and is back on his bike soon.
