We now have signage up identifying our premises for all to see. Groundworks have started at the rear of the base.
On the 16th of September the team were called out at 03.33 to assist Tweed Valley MRT in the search for a missing 18-year-old girl in the Eildon Hill area. Unfortunately, a body was later located.
The team’s Sunday exercise at the end of the September took place in the Lammermuirs, near Stobshiel, and involved search training, first aid, ropework, stretcher carry and offroad driving.
The team along with Borders Water Rescue Team, and the Costorphine First Aid team, provided First Aid cover for the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches. The teams treated several casualties from among the 250 riders.
By the time of publication 8 team members will have attended the SMR Conference. Workshops include Lightweight Rigging, 4x4Vehicles, Aircraft Post Crash Incident Management, Water Safety Skills, Casualty Management on Steeper Terrain, SAR Helicopters, Avalanche Incident Management, Search Management and Digital Mapping, Human Factors in Mountain Rescue and Medical workshops. There is also a workshop on team member Wellbeing as Mountain Rescue team members often experience traumatic incidents.
Every civilian Mountain Rescue Team in the UK relies on fund raising and donations to enable them to keep providing their service. On the second last weekend of September Magaret Thompson and her quilting friends held a display of quilts at Heiton and raised over £1,100 for the BSARU.
