The internal walls of the meeting/training room are now lined and await plastering. The office/control room has a fitted work surface. The July team meeting was a dual event with team members in the base and others at home thanks to video conferencing for those not attending in person.
In the last article I said that the team had had few callouts in 2024. No sooner stated than at the end of June, while I was in Shetland, the team had two callouts in quick succession. Just after midnight on the 20th the team were called to attend to a runner in the Summer Spine Race who had become unwell and incapacitated on the Border Ridge. The team, under the joint protocol, contacted the Northumberland National Park MRT for assistance. After the casualty was stabilised, and on a stretcher, a long carry out to a BSARU team vehicle at the border gate was undertaken. A SAS ambulance received the casualty at Cocklawfoot.
Then at 2130 hours on the 26th Police Scotland requested the team’s assistance, along with the Coastguard and Police Helicopter, in the search for a missing elderly man near Seton Sands. Thankfully the missing person was located later in the morning. It was reported the casualty was recovering well.
Team members provided emergency cover for the Earlston Black Hill Race during their Civic week.
