Internal work on the block walls began on the 20th of June but was halted with an unexpected interruption due to emergency work the builder had to undertake elsewhere. The work was completed on the 6th of July. Joinery work is the next stage. We still await installation of an electrical meter.
Following a brief bit by Chairman, Grant Rawlinson, on Greatest Hits Radio, Border local news, the team received a donation of kitchen worktops, and a stainless steel table. The team also received an anonymous donation of a sum of money.
Recently the team has had several call outs for missing persons with one sadly ending in the recovery of a body. Team members have also been involved in providing safety cover for Duns Summer Festival ride outs, the Earlston Black Hill Race, and the Floors 10k run. The June exercise was on rope rigging and took place near Cunzierton Hill.
At present there is a break in the electricity supply to the team garage at Kelso Racecourse and team member Brian Tyson gives the 3 team vehicles a weekly run to ensure the batteries are sufficiently charged. Normally the vehicles are on trickle feed chargers.
Some team members attended a wind turbine rescue exercise with EDF personnel at Fallago Rig Wind Farm, on the Lammermuirs, in mid-June. The exercise simulated the rescue of a casualty with a leg injury, catastrophic bleeding followed by a heart attack. A 30kg dummy was put out the nose of the turbine and was lowered on a single rope with a guide wire. Team members then demonstrated monitoring the casualty and the process of getting the casualty on to a stretcher.
