Enjoyable Mountain Rescue Experience Day 2016

Our 2016 Mountain Rescue Experience Day last month was enjoyed by all participants, raised £1200, and gained us a new probationary team member!

Demonstrating the wheeled stretcherAfter a slightly unpromising start with the weather, the afternoon of Sunday September 4th, 2016, cleared up nicely, and a warm and sunny day was enjoyed by all participants. We had walkers of all ages, and several canine participants, who all enjoyed either our 5 mile walk, or the 13 mile half marathon walk - and several energetic fell runners who ran the 13 mile route and were first back at the Watch Water Reservoir fishing hut to enjoy tea and cakes!

Our Mountain Rescue Experience 'stations' were enjoyed by all, especially the children, and a lively 'hen party' who enjoyed subjecting their 'bride to be' as a volunteer casualty to be bandaged, carried and wheeled around as we demonstrated equipment and techniques.

Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive:

"fabulous day"

"Great day in the hills"

"excellent introduction to outdoors"

"Great experience sharing knowledge and keeping fit!"

"Good walk with colleagues - not many opportunities to socialise out of work"

"a VERY brilliant day out - Thank you!"

We raised £1200 for the team, and one of the participants has even now joined us as a new probationer!  Thanks go to the Watch Water Fishing Hut for allowing us to use their lovely hut as our base for the day.

Plans are now afoot to build on the format of the day for next year, so please put Sunday September 3rd 2017 in your diary now!
